Ruth Lozner’s narrative, and often autobiographical sculptures, follow in the traditions of Surrealism and Dada with a backstory of folk art. A life-long collector, Lozner finds inspiration in her family’s cache of memorabilia, thrift shops, tag sales and dustbins. What emerge from this evocative detritus are surprising assemblages that hint at life’s dichotomies and brim with humor, visual puns and references to science, mythology and history.
