Information Session: Thursday, February 11 at 7:00 PM, VisArts, 2nd floor.

Join VisArts and the City of Rockville for an information session on the Storm Drain Mural Project, an opportunity to use art to help educate the public about the impact our collective actions have on local waterways and the Chesapeake Bay. Attendees will learn about the project guidelines and application process as well as the connection between storm drains and local water quality and how residents can help reduce pollution. Staff will also be available to answer questions regarding your mural’s theme and design.

The City of Rockville and VisArts are excited to present the “Rockville Storm Drain Mural Project” to the local community in celebration of the 45th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2016. This project uses the power and joy of art to educate the public about storm drains and the impact of our collective actions on local waterways and the Chesapeake Bay and provides an opportunity for artists to express themselves via a small-scale outdoor storm drain mural in a City of Rockville neighborhood. The project will use original mural designs to reflect topics related to how storm drains—and what goes into them—impact the health of local waterways. Themes could include water quality, streams, rivers, the Chesapeake Bay, native plants and wildlife, or pollution.

The project guidelines and application will be available starting January 4 at https://visarts.submittable.com

Submit mural ideas by Monday, March 14 to be considered to paint a Rockville storm drain. For questions, please call 240-314-8870.

While this is not a paid project, artists and their murals will be featured on the City website, Rockville Reports newsletter, and Rockville Channel 11.
