The process of carving and printing a relief print is a remarkably satisfying and stress-relieving process. It is very hands-on and requires good concentration, while rewarding the artist with an end-product that could never have been created by a machine. Students will gain practical knowledge in both one-color and two-color prints with the Soft-Kut, which is much easier to carve than traditional linoleum blocks (it cuts like butter!). Printing is possible without a press, and multiple “editions” are possible. The ink we will be using is non-toxic and washes off with water. The blocks are 9″ x 12′” or 4.5″ x 6″.
Students can bring their own photos to work from, or choose from a variety of reference materials provided by the instructor. You will also be shown examples of student work from past sessions, as well as that of well-known printmaking masters, for inspiration. Beginners to printmaking, age 17 and up are welcome, as well as experienced students looking to brush up on their skills.
