Nature Drawing Skills in Black and White (Ages 11-17)

Instructor:

Kate Lanxner
We are offering this class by request, for students who are looking to boost their observation of nature objects and scenery, and thus, the success of their botanical and landscape artwork that follows.
Keeping it limited to black-and-white (ink linework, washes, graphite pencil, charcoal) can improve a student’s focus, and that can serve them in future years.
Light, shade, tone, composition, line, and pattern all come into play.
“Still Life” is the traditional term for a set-up in a studio setting, and makes a huge difference from working from a 2-D photo. We’ll have real nature objects : branches, leaves, flowers, stones and living plants to work from. Also. we will be looking at the drawings of the Old Masters and well-known book illustrators for inspiration and reference. Students will be encouraged to keep a sketchbook to draw scenes in their backyards or public parks.

Please use the Notes section during registration to list needed accommodations.

Classes require a minimum enrollment of four students. If classes must be cancelled due to low enrollment, students will be informed three days prior to the start of the class and issued a full refund.
