Covid 19 has impacted our lives. Two years into the pandemic we are learning how to adjust. As a means of commentary on these times, this class will focus on drawing portraits of models wearing face masks. The presence of a mask will challenge students to define what’s under the mask using shape and shadows alone. Attention to detail will be given to other features including eyes, ears, and hair. Masks also remind us of drapery studies rendered by the artist of the past. Drapery was studied in academies because of its complexity in shape, weight, and play on light and shadow. Masks offer a similar challenge, they change and contour on faces creating unique shadows and
shapes from person to person.
This class will feature models with different hair types including coily, wavy, and straight hair. This will help strengthen the students’ understanding of different hair types.
This class is for ages 14 and up.
Students must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend this class.
