Ever wanted to add a little bit of sparkle to your work? Join teacher Kimberly Swanner for this two-session workshop on how to add gold luster and use decals to add oomph to your ceramic work! Students should bring between one to five glazed works to the class if they want to participate in the actual application of gold luster on their work. An assortment of lusters and decals will be provided. Firings will be done after each class o that students will have feedback on the process.
In lusterware, liquid metal luster is applied over vitrified pieces that have already been glazed and fired. They then undergo a third special firing which results in a metallic iridescent final look.
Gold Luster is made of particles of real gold suspended in a liquid medium. This organic binder burns off in the firing, providing beautiful gold accents on your glazed work.
Workshop participants will receive instruction on several different application techniques as well as safety and health protection issues. Participants will be required to wear a provided respirator throughout the class.
A shelf is not provided for in-progress work with this workshop.
