In this class series, students will experience the varied art media that each of our chosen children’s book illustrators have used, to create their body of artwork. We will be working large-scale (at least 11″x 14″), since what we see in a book has often been scaled down from the originals. The first book we will be working with is Hi Cat! by Ezra Jack Keats. We will also read Hair Love by Matthew Cherry, The Color of Us by Karen Katz, and 10,000 Dresses by Marcus Ewert.
The aim is not to copy an illustration exactly but to use it as a jumping-off point.
We have chosen books that depict a variety of characters, lifestyles, gender identities, races, and religions in keeping with VisArts’ policy of inclusivity and diversity.
This class has a limited enrollment of eight.
Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list any accommodations you will need during the class.
