Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios

Loading Events
As the title of the class series suggests, this class is all about ‘learning by doing.’ To imitate, and interpret, but not simply copy. As each illustrator is presented, students have the freedom to add, subtract or change color or composition. We have offered this series several times since 2021 to both kids and adults. The six illustrations have been chosen to represent a variety of styles and techniques. All have been published in recent years, and some have received awards.
Materials list:
  • Paper: About 3 sheets each of watercolor paper and 3 of sturdy drawing paper
  • Brushes: Watercolor brushes in Round (pointed) sizes 4 and 8 are recommended as well as a flat brush about 3/4 inch to one inch wide.
  • Micron Pens, waterproof, fine nibs. Size 03 and 08 are recommended
  • Watercolor pencils
  • Watercolors set or tubes and glass jars for mixing.
  • Optional: Toned paper, gray or tan, 2 sheets, 9  x 12 or 11 x 14″.
  • Pastel pencils Conte a Paris brand, in Black, White, and Brown if you can find them
  • Colored Pencils (Lyra or Prismacolor recommended)

Instruction will be provided through the Zoom platform. Students will need to have a webcam and the ability to download zoom on their computer, phone, or tablet. Once registered, students will be sent an e-mail with the Zoom URL to log in to the class. Please provide a viable e-mail address when registering as this is how the link will be sent.

Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list any accommodations you will need during the class.
