Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
Let your imagination take the lead in this fun and skill-building illustration class! Designed for young artists who love to draw and tell stories through pictures, this class explores the exciting world of illustration—from character creation to visual storytelling.
Students will learn foundational drawing techniques, including how to use shape, line, shading, and texture to bring their ideas to life. We’ll study the basics of proportion, expression, and movement while exploring different illustration styles—ranging from cartooning and storybook art to more realistic representations.
Each week, students will work on creative projects that help them develop their own unique style. They’ll learn how to create characters, design imaginative environments, and illustrate simple narratives or scenes from their own stories. Emphasis will be placed on planning compositions, using reference images, and building confidence in their drawing skills.
Through fun prompts and guided instruction, kids will complete a small portfolio of finished pieces by the end of the session. All skill levels are welcome—whether your child is a doodler or a dedicated sketchbook artist, this class is a great way to grow their love for drawing and creative expression.
Children under 13 must be dropped off and picked up at their classroom by a parent or caregiver.
Please use the Notes section during registration to list any accommodations your child may need during the class.
Classes require a minimum enrollment of four students. If classes must be cancelled due to low enrollment, students will be informed one week prior to the start of the class and issued a full refund.
