Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
In this wire sculpture class multimedia and sculpture artist, Maven Kahn, will introduce techniques about 3D wire wrapping for sculptural art. Students will learn to create geometric wire sculptures using materials such as aluminum, copper, tin, and patina finishes. Students will be encouraged to work in their own style while learning the techniques for wire sculpture.
Class 1: Students will familiarize themselves with how to use tools including wire cutters, needle nose pliers and flathead pliers. Students will learn the differences between aluminum and copper wire and the appropriate wire gauge to use for projects. Students will use their new knowledge to make jump rings and begin practicing how to wrap objects in wire.
Class 2: Students will make a plan for creating their wire sculpture projects and continue to practice techniques.
Class 3: Students will use the techniques they have practiced to begin creating their final wire sculpture.
Class 4: Students will receive individualized assistance from the instructor to complete their wire sculpture project.
Class 5: Students will receive individualized assistance from the instructor to complete their wire sculpture project.
This class is for ages 14 and up.
