Introduction to Oil Pastels

This course is perfect for the beginner student who has little experience with art, drawing or painting. In this course we will cover idea and basics of color theory, techniques and applications of oil pastels. Students will leave the course with several pieces of artwork. All materials are provided.

Week One: Drawing basics. Drawing a simple still life with graphic to create an accurate drawing learning some tips and tricks to feel comfortable when using oil pastels. During this class we will draw contour, cross contour and blind contour drawings.

Week Two: Color theory introduced. Techniques and materials introduced surrounding oil pastels.

Week Three: Still life depicted on paper with oil pastels.

Week Four: Bring in a photograph of your choice and replicate it on paper with oil pastels.

Week Five: Either continue with replicating your photograph, or students will have the option to create an abstract landscape.

Week Six: Open studio. Student will have the opportunity to draw from a still life, a photograph or their own abstract drawing with the oil pastels.

This class is for ages 14 and up.
