Introduction to Design for Potters: Gary Chung

In this class you will learn how to design your own unique work with intention. We will discuss shape, line, form, and other elements of design in order to make more educated decisions about how to move forward with our projects. As well as discuss strategies we can use to start new ideas completely from scratch.

Everything from making a mug with more visual impact to designing an abstract sculpture attempting to share a personal narrative can start with learning how to think like a designer. Wheel throwers, hand builders, and sculptors are all welcome to learn how to take their craft to the next level through iterative design.

Requisite: This class is designed for returning VisArts students or those who’ve completed our Beginning Handbuilding or Beginning Wheel class. Students must have completed the beginner class of the style they will be using in this course.

Each student is assigned a shelf for the course. Please clear it on your last day, unless you’re continuing with another class.

This class session includes 2188 cubic inches of glaze firings. Students who exceed this amount must pay an overage fee of $0.05 per cubic inch.

This class is for students ages 14 and up.
