About the Artist: Brandon Morse is a Washington, DC based artist who works with generative systems as a means to examine the ways in which physical phenomena such as entropy and emergence can function in ways that are both poetic and metaphorical. Through the use of code, and the creation of custom computer software, he creates simulations of seemingly complex systems to create video and video installations that seek to draw parallels between the ways in which these systems work and the ways in which we, both individually and collectively, navigate the world around us.

Morse has been teaching at Maryland since 2000. He received his B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and his M.F.A. in Art & Technology from The Ohio State University. He has exhibited his work in digital video and sound installation nationally and internationally. Exhibitions include the Corcoran Museum of Art in Washington, DC, the Nanjing Museum in China, the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center, Kusthalle Detroit, as well as many gallery exhibitions across the United States, Europe and Asia. www.coplanar.org

‘Prow’ is a new multi-channel outdoor projection by digital media artist Brandon Morse. A meditation on our current state of divisiveness and unease, Morse utilizes computer algorithms to portray a landscape in continuous flux; one that is at odds with itself and which can do nothing but tug at its own fabric to the point of disintegration and chaos. Written in software, the visuals of Prow will be continuously generated anew by a workstation housed at Visarts. The resulting time-based abstraction will change and evolve according to sets of rules and conditions set forth by the artist resulting in an ever-changing cascade of unique visual imagery which churns and moves of its own accord and in ways which are governed by the software and thus cannot be anticipated by the artist himself.
