Join VisArts Studio Artists Stephanie Mercedes and learn how to use recycled material that are normally considered “waste” (trash bags) to make functional raincoats. This series will change the way you look at waste and your waste stream and the techniques learned can be applied to other “waste” materials for other creations.
In the first session, students will use an iron to melt down trash bags to make a durable water resistant material. In the second session, students will cut out the shapes of their raincoats. In the third session students will hand sew their raincoat together. In the fourth session students will add the zipper and personalized touches to their functional water resistant jackets made out of trash bags. All materials will be provided and all sewing techniques will be taught so no previous sewing skills is required. For ages 14 and up.
