Combine the luminous and striking colors of kiln formed glass with the rich textures and beauty of metal in this two-day workshop to create a striking mixed media pendant. On the first day you will learn about kiln formed glass, explore different types of glass, and learn to use tools to create a stunning jewel that will become the focal point of your pendant. The instructor with demonstrate several design techniques in the class that will help give you ideas of what you can do with fused glass and provide examples of finished pieces for visual reference. After you make 2-4 separate glass cabochons, they will be fired in the kiln over night.
The following day students will select the fired piece that they want to use in the finished pendant and learn the basic bench skills needed to create a unique metal setting for the glass. The instructor will cover design considerations, tool and bench skills and show students how to work with metal for the first time.
This 2-day class is a wonderful opportunity to explore two different materials and create a stunning piece of jewelry.
** While the class is open to those with no glass or metal experience, the class size will be limited and open only to students over 14 years of age. VisArts will provide all tools necessary for the work, but if you have your own metal or glass tools, you are certainly welcome to bring them.”
