SUMMARY:Fundamentals of Art
DESCRIPTION:This is a beginner’s adult course in the fundamentals of art. Students will investigate the concepts and principles of two-dimensional visual design. Additionally\, an introduction to basic color theory will be presented. Students will come away from this course with a basic understanding of artistic vocabulary and become familiar with the elements of art and the principles of design.  \nWeek One: Element of Art: Line. Explore hatching\, cross hatching\, scumbling and stippling techniques and use this knowledge to create your own abstract line study drawing using a variety of sharpie markers.  \nWeek Two: Moldable stamp printing. Focusing on the element of shape\, create your own pattern by using Moldable stamps. Students will repeat a motif to create an all over pattern on a large sheet of paper.  \nWeek Three: Optical Illusion Art. Exploring the element Color and the idea of depth in a composition\, students will create their own “Op Art” Artists introduced will include Frank Stella and Bridget Riley.  \nWeek Four: Exploring Figure/Ground by creating an asymmetrical and symmetrical Notan. Will continue to explore the Element of Art\, Shape and various examples of Notans will be introduced. \nWeek Five: Exploring Texture with tracing paper\, matte medium\, India ink and layering techniques. \nWeek Six: Exploring Soft Color Pastels\, investigating the Artist Wayne Thiebaud.  \nThis class is for students ages 14 and up. \nPlease use the Notes section on the registration form to list any accommodations you will need during the class. \nClasses require a minimum enrollment of four students. If classes must be cancelled due to low enrollment\, students will be informed one week prior to the start of the class and issued a full refund.
