Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
This two-day workshop introduces the concepts and techniques of sculpting the human form in clay with a focus on efficiency and expression. Participants will develop fundamental skills in clay modeling and figure assemblage, working on a single pose from start to finish. Students will work from a live model to perfect their understanding of proportion, symmetry, and form.
Through the study of the structure of the human body, this workshop enables participants to capture the essence of the figure and build confidence to express themselves within the figurative tradition. Participants will practice observing, perceiving, and reproducing the complexities of the human form.
This class is suitable for sculptors of all levels and is also valuable for those experienced in drawing, painting, or 3D animation. Beginning sculptors are welcome, as are experienced sculptors seeking a deeper understanding of figurative art.
The instructor will provide individual attention within the context of a supportive class environment.
Students are encouraged to use low-fire red clay, which will be available for purchase online starting mid-March, though other types of clay may be used.
Each day includes a one-hour lunch break.
This class is for ages 14 and up.
Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list needed accommodations.
Classes require a minimum enrollment of four students. If classes must be cancelled due to low enrollment, students will be informed one week prior to the start of the class and issued a full refund.
