Explore Reactive Fused Glass

Instructor:

Nanette Bevan

This four-week course will explore the potential of using reactive glass in kiln-forming glass. Students will learn what makes a glass reactive and how applying heat and layering pieces when firing can affect the intensity of a reaction.

By the end of the class, students will understand the basics of reactive glass and know how to begin using the effects of reactive glass in their own fused glass creations.

Key Course Concepts:

  • Understand the science and properties of reactive glass
  • Explore the different types of reactive glasses and their applications
  • Learn how to incorporate reactive glass techniques into fused glass projects
  • Make reactive glass part sheets to use

Registration is partially underwritten by a grant from the Windgate Foundation as part of VisArts' Center for Craft Studies Program.
