Buchanan Event Room
Early Bird Bowl Selection 5:30-6:00 PM
While Montgomery County is often described as one of the wealthiest, best educated, and most affluent counties in the country, food insecurity exists… all around us. In 2018 it was estimated that 63,000 Montgomery County residents did not know from where they would get their next meal. No matter where you live or work, you can help fill the bowls of our neighbors who are hungry by participating in Empty Bowls 2019.
Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. The premise is simple: potters and other craftspeople, educators and others work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Attendees are invited to a simple meal of soup, bread, and dessert. In exchange for a cash donation, guests keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.
VisArts is pleased to once again host an Empty Bowl event. This year’s gathering will take place on Thursday, November 21st at VisArts. Partners providing soup, bread, and dessert for the evening include Nourish Now, a local non-profit food bank, Highpoint Caterers, and Catering by Seasons.
VisArts’ ceramic instructors and students are busy creating hundreds of handcrafted bowls for this event. Clay, glazes, studio time and kiln costs to support the work are being donated by VisArts .
All proceeds from the event will go to support Nourish Now and Interfaith Works, a nonsectarian interfaith coalition of more than 165 affiliated congregations of diverse faiths, working together to meet the needs of the poor and homeless in Montgomery County.
By purchasing an “early bird” ticket you get to go to the head of the line to select your beautiful one-of-a kind bowl. During the evening, the VisArts resident artist studios and galleries will be open and you will be able to meet the generous artists who made this event possible.
Early Bird Ticket $35.00
On Line Ticket $25.00
At the Door Ticket $30.00
