Adding dimension to your ceramics is a relatively easy way to up your work’s visual impact and a cool thing to do!

During this workshop students will learn how to make a porcelain slip that shrinks at the same rate as throwable stoneware, which allows for a finish that is integrated and does not crack or slough. During the first half of this class, Ryan will demonstrate how to make the slip using a recipe and how to apply the slip to mugs, a plate, and a teapot. In the second half of the class, students will throw a piece within their skill level and apply slip to the piece. Students will leave with a small amount of slip to work with and the recipe to make their own.

This class is suitable for anyone who has some experience in the full ceramics process through glazing. Please bring any personal throwing tools and a notebook and writing implement. Clay is  not provided but any of VisArts’ high-fire clays is suitable to use and may be bought from the office, if needed.
