Louis Comfort Tiffany founded the Tiffany Glass Company in the late 1890’s but here is some interesting facts about the beautiful lamps, which resemble stained glass windows (from the website www.lampsplus.com):
“By 1895, the first Tiffany lamp was created. Until very recently, it was believed Tiffany himself was behind the design and creation of his famous original lamps. However, it was discovered that a woman named Clara Driscoll created the first Tiffany lamps for which the company would become famous. She was employed as a designer at Tiffany Studios for over 20 years crafting these signature designs.”
Students the first day will create their designs in pencil. They will then transfer them onto some toned pastel or charcoal paper (all materials provided as well as some resource photos) and lay out some black basic lines. Then they will see a demo on pastel the second day and add the color. The toned paper will make it possible to show a “glow” from the lamp. Framed, this could make a beautiful holiday gift.
Materials needed in the class:
– Toned pastel paper (11″ x 14″)
– NuPastels (red, blue, yellow, white, black)
If you have purchased the materials from VisArts, please use this link HERE to schedule an appointment to pick up your materials once you have registered.
All virtual classes are based in Zoom. Students will need to have a webcam and the ability to download Zoom on their computer, phone or tablet. Access to the Zoom classroom will be e-mailed the day before the class starts.
