Join us for a day of creative mending with exhibiting artist Eliza Clifford!
In this workshop, we’ll dive into the world of textiles, focusing on patchwork mending and darning. You’ll learn how to mend and patch ripped clothes in a unique way using basic patchwork and stitching skills, drawing from hand-mending techniques, Gee’s Bend patchwork piecing, and machine mending. We’ll also explore decorative embroidery techniques to embellish garments and give them new life!
Clothes you can bring: Cotton, linen, canvas, and denim clothing and accessories—jackets, shirts, pants, overalls, tote bags, and more.
This workshop is offered in connection with Clifford’s exhibition, The Flowers We Keep (355 POD Space Gallery, March 14-June 15, 2025).
About the Artist
Eliza Clifford (she/her) is an arts educator, printmaker, and multidisciplinary artist from Maryland. In 2019, Clifford graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a BFA in Book Arts, Graphic Design, and Printmaking. Since then, she has worked and taught at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, the Women’s Studio Workshop, the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington, and VisArts.
Clifford has been an artist in residence at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, the Remarque Print Workshop, and the Penland School of Craft. Her work has been acquired by collections nationally, including the University of Pittsburgh, The Ohio State University, and the Kansas State University Print Archive. She has been featured in exhibitions at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, the Washington Printmakers Gallery, the Baltimore Fine Print Fair, the Morgan Conservatory, the Torpedo Factory Art Center, Kent State University, and the McLean Project for the Arts.
