Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
Join us for our next Craft & Conversation series by joining forces with the James Renwick Alliance for Craft in their Distinguished Artist Series, featuring Margarita Cabrera, whose work centers on social-political issues including cultural identity, migration, and empowerment. She and her collaborators create sculptures in mediums ranging from steel, copper, wood, ceramics and fibers which address important current topics.
You may recognize her work from the State Fairs: Growing American Craft exhibition now on display at the Renwick Gallery. Her work helps people define their place and voice in the social and cultural dialogues evolving in their communities.
Hear her speak at the virtual artist talk on Zoom followed by a Q&A session. Later that week, Margarita will give an in-person demonstration of her sculptural techniques using fiber.  Â
Margarita Cabrera (b. 1973, Monterrey, Mexico) received an MFA from Hunter College in 2007. She is an assistant professor at the School of Art at Arizona State University. This Center for Craft Studies program is made possible in part by a generous grant from the Windgate Foundation.
