Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
In this hands-on painting class, your young artist will explore the many creative possibilities of applying paint to paper and canvas in ways they may not have tried before. Designed to encourage experimentation and build confidence, the class introduces foundational painting techniques while nurturing each child’s individual expression.
Students will learn how to properly hold, clean, and care for a brush; how to mix and blend colors; and the differences between watercolor and acrylic paints. They’ll also be introduced to key concepts such as what a “wash” is, the basics of composition, and how to thoughtfully arrange elements in a painting.
Projects will include painting townscapes inspired by the view from our classroom windows, still life featuring real fruit and baked goods, and expressive abstract work in the style of Paul Klee, an artist who deeply admired the creativity of children and sought to capture its essence in his own art.
This class offers a joyful and skill-building introduction to painting that blends technique with imaginative exploration.
We encourage independence with our youngest learners; all children’s classes are designed to be drop off only. Children under 13 must be dropped off and picked up at their classroom by a parent or caregiver.
Please use the Notes section during registration to list any accommodations your child may need during the class.
Classes require a minimum enrollment of four students. If classes must be cancelled due to low enrollment, students will be informed one week prior to the start of the class and issued a full refund.
