Students will explore various methods of sculptural clay construction and the aesthetic concerns of the sculptural object. A variety of traditional hand building methods including pinched, coiled, slab-construction, and innovative forming techniques will be introduced to challenge and inspire students notion of ceramic sculpture. The full range of ceramic finishes including under-glazes, terra-sigillata, glazing and firing techniques will be introduced and explored to emphasize the interfacing of ceramic surface and form.
