The Sculptor’s Toolkit workshop will demonstrate a wide variety of material techniques used in building sculpture and discuss the sculpture process beginning with building an armature, followed by form build-out, and finally, resolving the finished surface. The workshop will conclude with distribution of a guide to unconventional materials and a history of their use.
Sections will include photographic reference of work in progress as well as work samples. Materials discussed and demonstrated in the class will include:
-Armature: Wire, paper, wood, pvc pipe and foam.
-Rough form buildout : Ceramic, Paper mache, plaster, fiberglass, polymer, wood putty/spackle.
-Finishing forms with surface and texture applications: Ceramic, polymer and epoxy clay, glaze, pigment and dry medium/texture application.
Each section will demonstrate possible outcomes of adhesive techniques to varied surfaces and will illustrate successful and unsuccessful outcomes.
The Master Craft Workshop and Lecture Series is underwritten by the Windgate Foundation.
