Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
Join renowned ceramic artist Xiaosheng Bi for a two-part workshop exploring the elegance, beauty, and meaning behind traditional Chinese calligraphy. Rooted in centuries of philosophy, poetry, and visual rhythm, calligraphy is more than writing—it’s a deeply expressive art form.
Learn foundational brush techniques, how to structure characters, and how ink density shapes movement and texture. Then, translate these time-honored methods into your own contemporary abstract work.
This workshop, offered in connection with Bi’s exhibition, Confrontation. Compromise. (Concourse Gallery, May 16-June 13), welcomes both beginners and experienced artists to slow down, connect with process, and treat mark-making as both reflection and art.
This class is for ages 14 and up.
Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list needed accommodations.
Classes require a minimum enrollment of four students. If classes must be cancelled due to low enrollment, students will be informed one week prior to the start of the class and issued a full refund.
