Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
Butterflies really lend themselves to watercolor painting because of the nuances of tones on their wings. Several sample butterfly color photos and/or artwork will be on hand to use for reference. Each student will pick one and then beforehand make a decision to change an aspect of it to make it their own.
The design will take up 3/4 of the space, roughly 11″ x 14″ on watercolor paper. Before starting a final sketch on this paper, students will be given a smaller piece to experiment along with the instructor at the start of class; students should be mindful of arriving at least 5 minutes ahead of time to VisArts, so everyone will have the same foundation. Starting out, we will experiment metallic watercolors and see how they may differ from the traditional pan watercolors. The latter will be some fine quality opaque colors which can be made transparent by adding more water to them. Once a base color is made (after a line sketch with a colored pencil) and then dried, the metallic accents can be added in the last hour.
This class is for ages 14 and up.
