Shown here is a page from the sketch journal of artist/author Samantha Baker, who wrote the illustrated handbook, Draw Your Day.(she also has a sequel entitled, Draw Your World). Purchasing one of these books is highly recommended, though not required. Here is a quote from the book on the advantage of keeping up a practice of an art journal:
” …Sketch journaling is an opportunity to be expressive in a whole new way. It’s a time away from screens, a time to sit with feelings and ideas…to be mindful…”
As you can see from the page here, on any page you could include a variety of images: where you went that day, what you saw, what you ate, who you visited with, nature, or animals. In class, you will create two pages, so bring some ideas!
Materials Needed:
- Blank journal sketchbook
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Colored pencils
- Watercolors and/or watercolor pencils
- Waterproof black fine ink pens (like Microns)
- Markers or gel pens
- Calligraphy marker (if you have experience with them)
Instruction will be provided through the Zoom platform. Students will need to have a webcam and the ability to download zoom on their computer, phone, or tablet. Once you register for the class, you will be sent an e-mail with the Zoom URL to log in to the class. Please provide a correct and viable e-mail address when registering as this is how you receive your link.
