Join VisArts’ Next Generation/Sanctuary Fellow Sobia Ahmad to create art for social change. Since 2017, Sobia has been collecting ID photos of Muslim immigrants to raise awareness about the psychological toll of unjust policies such as the Travel Ban on her immediate community and beyond. She transfers these ID photos on Islamic-shaped tiles for an on-going installation called Small Identities. In this workshop, participants will have the chance to transfer their own ID photo onto tiles, learn about the power of storytelling in art and activism, and share their own or their family’s experience of immigration and belonging.
You do not have to be Muslim or an immigrant to attend; all are welcome to join this conversation about art and it’s power for justice and social impact. Please send a 2×2 ID photo upon registration to Susanna Lee at firstname.lastname@example.org.
