Onsite Kids Camp – Session V

Tantara LaVon Person is a lifelong, multi-disciplined artist that is excited to join VisArts Summer Camp! Tantara experienced challenges with speech development as a young child, so she learned to use drawings to communicate through greeting cards and comics strips. She believes that creativity is a powerful tool to help navigate our inner selves, connect to others, and craft a vision for our own unique lives.

Tantara began to study art formally in Montgomery Blair High School’s magnet art program, continuing to Montgomery College Rockville where she completed a degree in graphic design in 2003. During that time she participated in numerous artist alleys exhibitions at pop culture conventions such as Katsucon, Otakon, and Anime Boston. In 2006 she attended the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, and began to study printmaking along with drawing, painting, and sculpture, graduating in 2010 earning a BA in studio art with a minor in Japanese language. Tantara began hosting DIY art shows in Atlanta as The Harold Group art collective from 2007-2012 with her roommates to help bridge the gap between school and professional galleries.

In 2015, Tantara returned to Maryland and was accepted in Baltimore City Teaching Fellows to teach early childhood education for Baltimore City Public Schools studying pedagogy and curriculum development. In 2018, Tantara began volunteering at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Hyattsville, MD regularly participating in events. She continues to practice printmaking at PAAC and volunteered extensively during the Covid-19 pandemic to support their educational programming. Tantara looks forward to helping students to find their creative flow and enjoy completing and exhibiting their works and vision.
