Art Parties for Adults

"When the ordinary just won't do"

When you want to host a party that isn’t the “same old- same old” kind of event consider bringing your friends and family to VisArts for a creative art experience. You and your guests can create a painting, make a ceramic vase or mug, decorate wine glasses or platters or create a beautiful fused glass plate.

Whatever you decide to do VisArts will provide you with an enthusiastic and experienced instructor and all of the materials necessary to create beautiful one of a kind artworks. You can bring in your own food and beverages or VisArts can give you recommendations on area restaurants and caterers who would be happy to work with you.

Simply put, VisArts will put the ART in your PARTY!

Fused Glass Plates: $37.50/person

Two hour event.

This is one of our most popular classes. Your guests will make either a 6” square or 4” x 6” rectangular plate while they learn how to cut glass and create beautiful one of a kind glass plates. This is a terrific introduction to working with “warm glass”. Glass plates will be full fused and slumped and ready to pick up two weeks after the class.

 

Mona Lisa Smiles: $20/person

Three hour event.

In the movie “Mona Lisa Smiles” students are given a “paint by numbers” canvas of DaVinci’s famous painting as their final art class assignment. While some of the students tried to copy DaVinci’s style, others “went off the reservation” to create works that bore very little resemblance to the original painting. We’ll encourage your guests to be inspired to make work that reflects their own individual style while being inspired by the original work and the artist who created it. We’ll provide a lightly sketched 16x20 canvas, acrylic paints, brushes, easel and of course a great instructor to talk about mixing colors and paint application.

 

Painted Platters: $30/person

Two and one-half hour event.

Practice surface decoration techniques on a 9x9 bisque platter. Using stencils, dabbers, slip trailing and underglazes your guests will create a masterpiece that will be ready to pick up 10 business days after the class.

 

Clay Creations: $30/person

Two hour event.

We offer two different kind of clay experiences for our private parties. Our “Impressions” project starts with a beautiful wheel thrown mug form that your participants can alter and decorate using stamps, sprigs, underglazes, natural objects, texture tools, lace and anything else they can find. There will be a brief wheel demonstration so that participants can appreciate the skill involved in creating the form they are working with. The second clay experience involves working with soft clay slabs to create a vessel from scratch. As with the Impression mug project students will be able to texture, alter and color their creations. All projects will be bisque fired and then clear glazed. Projects will be ready for pick up two weeks after the event.

 

Mosaic Mirrors: $30/person

Additional $10.00 if VisArts grouts your mirror

Three hour event.

VisArts provides 10x10 mirror frames, stained glass, ceramic tiles, glass tiles and everything else you will need to create a one of a kind mosaic mirror. Our experienced instructors will teach participants how to cut class, assemble and then finally grout their mirrors. Participants will be given individual packages of grout so that they can easily grout their mirrors at home once their tiles have set.

 

Wine Glass Painting: $22/person

Two hour event.

Participants will be provided four 10 ounce wine glasses, special glass paints, brushes and an enthusiastic instructor to lead your group in this two hour class. Your guests will leave with beautiful custom wine glasses that they will be proud to use. This project is especially great for bridal showers and birthday celebrations.

 

Private Party FAQs

How much will my event cost?

All private parties and team-building events at VisArts have a $250 facility/instructor charge to cover room rental and instructor costs.

For private parties of more than 15 participants, an assistant is required to help the instructor at an additional charge of $75. Events that start after 3:00 pm on Sundays are required to have an assistant regardless of size.

For private parties of more than 36 participants the instructor room fee is increased to $400 to cover the room rental of largest classroom and two instructors. If an additional room is required, extra fees will apply.

In addition to the facility/instructor charge, there will is a per person materials charge that varies depending upon which project you select.

How long do I have for my event?

The price of the private event includes the use of a classroom for up to three hours of class time. If your event runs past the allotted time, or if you need special equipment such as a bar, additional tables for food or linens, additional charges will apply.

Do I need to give a deposit and what happens if I have to cancel the event?

A $300 deposit is required to hold a room and engage an instructor. Your reservation is not final until the deposit is received. The balance is due the day of the event. If the event is cancelled more than two weeks prior to the scheduled date, the deposit will be fully refunded. Events cancelled less than two weeks prior to the scheduled date will result in forfeiture of 50% of the deposit. Events cancelled within five days of the scheduled date will forfeit the entire deposit at the discretion of VisArts staff.

When is the final guest count due and what happens if it changes at the last minute?

Final guest counts are due no later than five business days prior to the event. After the final count is provided, the client will be charged for that number of guests even if the number of guests decreases. The number of guests can increase after the final count is provided, but not by more than 10% of the final guest count.

If the client selects the “Mona Lisa Smiles” painting activity, a selection of the image to be painted must be made at least ten (10) business days prior to the event to allow sufficient time for sketching of the specific image on the canvases.

Can I provide my own food and alcoholic beverages?

Private event hosts are welcome to provide their own food and beverages, including alcoholic beverages. All food must come from a licensed food facility such as a restaurant, caterer or grocery store. County regulations prohibit the serving of homemade food. If alcoholic beverages are provided, the host is responsible for ensuring that no one under the age of 21 is served and must supervise the event to make sure that no over-service of alcohol occurs. In the event that a guest becomes intoxicated, the event host is responsible for making sure that they are no longer served and that they do not leave the premises while intoxicated. Pursuant to Maryland law, no open containers of alcohol can be removed from the premises.

Can VisArts come to my site for a private party?

Yes, absolutely. Off-site events incur additional charges to cover travel costs, packing, moving and delivery of materials to and from the event site. The minimum instructor/assistant fee for an off-site event is $450 and can increase depending upon the site, the project materials and the number of participants. This does not include the per person materials charge for the particular project.

Clients interested in off-site programs must provide an appropriate venue for the art party close to a water source.

Three hour event.

We will create a special image for you that will be divided into up to 12 individual canvases. This painting project requires that your team negotiate colors, shading, transitioning between different images and final individual details. You’ll end up with one large image that would be great in a meeting room, break area or lunch area. The materials price per person for the collaborative painting project is $30.00.

 

Custom Painting Options: $30/person

Three hour event.

If what you want is a truly custom image for your group to paint, we can do that for you as well. In this project each person will paint his or her own painting and the image can reflect a corporate project, logo, goals or mission statement. The materials cost for custom images is $30.00 per person.

Team Building FAQs

How much will my event cost?

All private parties and teambuilding events that take place at VisArts have a $250.00 facility/instructor charge. For larger groups that need additional room or teachers, the facility/instructor charge will be $450.00.

In addition to the facility/instructor charge, there will be a per person materials charge that varies depending upon which project you select to do.

If your event runs past the allotted time, or if you need special equipment such as a bar, additional tables for eating or linens, there may be additional charges associated with your event.

If your event will be held off-site, there is an additional $200.00 fee to cover travel costs, packing and delivering materials to the site of the event and then return those materials to VisArts.

Can I provide my own food and alcoholic beverages?

Private event hosts and hostesses are welcome to provide their own food and beverages, including alcoholic beverages for their events. All food must come from a licensed food facility such as a restaurant, caterer or grocery store. No homemade food is permitted to be served. If alcoholic beverages are provided, the host and/or hostess are responsible for ensuring that no one under the age of 21 is served. In addition, no open containers of alcohol are permitted to be removed from the premises pursuant to Maryland law. The event host/hostess is also responsible for making sure that no one who is obviously intoxicated is served or leaves the premises intoxicated.

How long do I have for my event?

The price of the private event includes the use of a classroom for the length of the art project (usually between 2 and 3 hours). If additional time for meetings, gift giving and eating is required, additional hours are available for $75.00 per hour or part thereof. If additional tables are needed for food and beverage buffets or additional seating is required for the consumption of food away from the art activity, please talk to our private event planner, Karen Askin at This email address is being protected from spambots. Cocktails and Canvas: $45/person

Choose from several of our "love" themed paintings and we will provide lightly sketched canvas, paint, brushes, aprons and a great instructor. Your guests will walk away with a masterpiece inspired by love while having a great time with their friends. Wine, cheese, fruit, snacks and sodas will be provided while you and your friends explore your creative sides. A great activity for all couples!

Adventures in Glass: $55/person

Tired of going to bridal showers and exclaiming "oooh" as the bride opens gift after gift? Come party with VisArts where your guests each make beautiful glass dishes for themselves and all work together to create a large one-of-a-kind platter for the bride to be. Enjoy wine, cheese and fruit while you assemble your dishes. Come back in two weeks to pick up your fired and finished work.

Upgrade: Catered dinners or cocktail parties are available in our Buchanan Room. It's big enough to hold 120 guests, so don't be shy to invite your closest friends or your extended family member.

VisArts will provide large, three dimensional letters to be decorated by your guests. Preselect paint colors to coordinate with your nursery decorations or let your guests' imaginations go wild! Onesies Banner: $40/person

We'll provide "onesies" for your friends to decorate and string together for a one-of-a-kind nursery banner for your child's new room. If you prefer, you can choose to keep the onesies separate and dress your child in original fashions created by your friends. We provide fabric paint, iron-on decorations, buttons, thread, embellishments, ribbons and more!

Original Nursery Art: $30/person

Come and create some beautiful one-of-a-kind paintings to decorate your child's room!
