Birthday Party FAQs

Booking Questions

How soon should I book?

Due to the popularity of VisArts birthday, we ask that you book at least on month ahead of time.

How many guests can I invite?

All parties have a maximum of 20 guests. This is due to the size of the party room. Also, we want to make sure all guests get the attention they need. We may be able to accommodate a larger group for an additional room and staff fee.

Can I invite more than 20 guests and anticipate less will show up?

Please only invite 20 guests. Our parties are very popular and it's common for every guest to show up.

What if I book for 20 and only 18 show up?

One the day of the party, you will only pay for who shows up. We will adjust the cost of the final bill.

What does the base cost cover verses the price per guest?

The base cost covers the staff and facility (we are non-profit so every penny helps up stay open) and the price per guest covers the supplies for the craft projects your guests take home.

How long is a party?

All parties, except for Carnival Parties are two hours. Carnival parties are an hour and a half long.

Do you provide food?

We do not provide food but allot 30 minutes during the party for your guests to enjoy any food you wish to bring. We have a refrigerator you are welcome to use. We prefer juice boxes or drinks that are spill-proof.

Do you provide plates, etc?

We can provide lunch plates, cake plates, lunch napkins and dessert napkins for an additional $1 per guest. Included are table covers, forks, candles, a cake cutter and lighter to use.

Do you offer any discounts?

We offer seasonal discounts on our coupon page.

Can you do a custom birthday theme?

Yes. If you're child is interested in something special, we are happy to work with you on a custom theme. Since we are an art facility, the party must be art related or incorporate an art project.

Party Planning

Do you have invitations?

We have printable invitations that you can print on cardstock to give to your guests. Download the PDF Invitation.

Can you recommend a place to get pizza?

We are not affiliated with any pizza places but we are closest to Giuseppe's, Vocelli, Dominoes and Papa Johns. Instruct your delivery to come to the third floor, Mixed Media Room #1.

Can I bring my own decorations?

Yes. We provide a 6-foot banner and tablecovers but feel free to bring balloons or other decorations.

The Day of the Party

Where can guests park and do you validate?

Guests are welcome to use our free 5-five minute drop off in front of our building. We also have pay per hour parking garages around Rockville Town Square. We can validate for 2-hour parking in our main office. Do not park at the bank (it's a $40 ticket).

What time should I arrive on the day of the party?

Please arrive no sooner than 20 minutes before the start of your party. We are more than likely still setting up or cleaning up from the previous event.

Will there be signs to direct my guests to the right place?

We have signs posted on the first floor and a wipe board on the third floor to direct your guests to the right place. More than likely, you are in the Mixed Media 1 room unless otherwise instructed.

What time do you serve food?

We leave the last 30 minutes of your party to serve food. You are welcome to have snacks available for your guests or parents.

Art Masters Party



Base Cost: $300

Children Keep: One 11 x 14 painted canvas

We cannot accommodate more than 20 participants.

Children will create a masterpiece based on a famous work of art. VisArts will provide lightly presketched canvases, acrylic paints, brushes, easels and aprons as well as some basic instruction and a discussion about the artist’s work and life. Your guests will leave with artwork worthy of being framed!

When booking, please note which of the following works of art your child would like to paint at the party. Or, if they have a different favorite artist, we can find an appropriate work of art for the birthday group to paint instead.

Jewelry Party


Base Cost: $300

Guest Cost: $7

Children Keep: all the jewelry they make, cello bag provided

Come hang out, eat snacks and play music while the kids amaze you with their jewelry crafting skills. Everyone will make as many pieces as they can in the allotted time to take home. Projects include:

  • Memory wire bracelets
  • Earrings (for ages 8+)
  • Necklaces
  • Friendship Pin Key Chains

Supplies include:

  • A large variety of glass and plastic beads
  • Charms
  • Alphabet beads
  • Neon elastic/silk chord and other string/wire needed
  • Pretty cellophane bags 
  • Earring bags

Party Timing
While the guests arrive, they will start by making friendship pins for each other until everyone has arrived. Then, some brief instruction will be given on how to make keychains, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. The instructor will also go over jewelry design pattern-making. We provide a large supply of gorgeous beads, charms, and plenty of findings for everyone to make as many projects as time allows. Our staff will attach closures to all necklaces and earrings while the kids keep making new things.

We can provide music or you can bring your own to play as the children craft. Snacks can also be served while they create. We also provide cello bags for the children that will hold all their jewelry creations. You are welcome to serve a meal and/or cake during the last half hour of the 2-hour party. You won't believe what stunning jewelry everyone makes!


Minecraft Party


Base Cost: $300

Guest Cost: $7

Children Keep: 1 t-shirt, 1 grid notebook, and 1 box of candy

Grab your pick axe and get ready to craft some fun! Minecraft fans will get to design their own pixel art t-shirts, graph notepad, and then play an original game called "Finders Creepers" with their friends. Beware, creepers may be in attendance!

Party Timing:
As guests arrive they will be encouraged to draw some Minecraft inspired blueprints on graph paper.
Once all the guests are ready, we will teach the children a little about pixel art and explain why Minecraft is designed in this art style. 
After the children have a better understanding of pixels, they will use templates or their own designs to make a T-shirt using arylic paint and cube stamps. Aprons are provided. 

Once the t-shirts are complete, a cool grid paper notebook will be passed out with templates to create a mosaic cover. These notebooks can be used at home to plan future Minecraft designs!

Finally, the kids will play a scavenger hunt game to collect boxes hidden around the room. Whoever matches the boxes correctly will get to choose a box of candy first, and so on, until everyone has won candy.

The last 30-minutes will be left open to serve any food or dessert. By the end of the party, the t-shirts should be dry enough to take home. Otherwise, newspaper is provided.
