Josette Simon-Gestin: April 17 - June 12

Rate this post

Josette Simon-Gestin’s artwork often takes her back to her childhood. For her residency, she will rediscover the games she played in the school yard while growing up in Brittany, France. Hopscoth, skipping rope, playing with marbles will be part of her research and she will paint scenes of children at play.

Gestin realized how children are disconnected from art through her work teaching elementary school students at the Lycée Rochambeau, French International School, in Bethesda, MD. Gestin wants to tell kids that creativity can be found in many different places and to show them that art is part of everyday life in simple things, like playing games. The artist plans to invite kids to try their hands at these games and will take her paintings to school and/or bring children to the studio.
